Project: London Marriott Hotel Regents Park
Marriott Regents Park is in the heart of North West London, located just around the corner from London’s famous Primrose Hill, Regent’s Park and ZSL London Zoo.
ARTIQ Head of Operations, Katie Terres worked closely with the hotel and a talented design and project management team including Anita Rosato Interior Design, Tower Eight and Benjamin West to develop a bespoke art collection to compliment the high-end redesign and reflect the local history and geographical location of the hotel.
For the corridors, Katie drew inspiration from the natural surroundings of Regent’s Park and nearby Primrose Hill procuring a series of botanical photographs that include reflections of the ‘Primrose Flower’. The photography elegantly connects the hotel with its locale and uses contemporary splashes of colour to create aesthetic interaction with guests.
Inspired by the hotel’s proximity to ZSL London Zoo, Katie sourced a series of original prints by local artists that work within zoological themes for the guestrooms. Tropicana by London based painter and illustrator Margaux Carpentier is a vibrant, playful depiction of tropical animals. Having worked previously on murals for ZSL London Zoo, Margaux’s work was chosen to reflect the geographical location of the hotel and connect the collection with local history. Margaux’s use of vivid orange in Tropicana compliments the palette and orange detailing seen in the interior design by Anita Rosato.
The guestroom collection also features work by local artists Nadia Taylor and Joanna Ham. Katie commissioned Nadia to create new interpretations of her iconic bird collages, working with the artist to develop art using bespoke colour schemes to compliment the interiors.
Work by artist and illustrator Joanna Ham is focussed around animal motifs, with the character ‘Rabbit’ taking centre stage in her minimalist aesthetic. Joanna is the founder of London design house HAM and is an important figure in the local contemporary art and design scene, collaborating with brands including Liberty, Designjunction, Mother, Billy Name, Topshop and Colette. Joanna’s work was chosen to reflect the hotel’s commitment to local artists and adds a contemporary splash of monochrome to the bedroom design.
ARTIQ were delighted to add sculpture to the guestroom collection, working with a local artist to handmake a series of wire sculptures depicting elephants. The sculptures can be seen nestled atop of the guestroom wardrobes, installed by ARTIQ to create a sense of fun and a playful focal point for guests.
