ARTIQ were commissioned to curate an art collection for The Marriott Heathrow Conference, Banqueting & Event Space, redesigned by EPR Architects alongside works for the bedrooms, designed by Anita Rosato Interior Design.
ARTIQ art consultants Katie Terres & Patrick McCrae worked directly with the hotel to curate a collection to challenge and inspire. For the Banqueting & Events space, Katie selected a number of striking aluminium circles, featuring 360° fish-eye-lens images of cities and parks all over the world. Kevin Sloan’s work, selected for the meeting space, takes a humorous look at the traditional meeting experience and was chosen by Patrick and the hotel to reflect the exciting re-design of their meeting facilities.
For the bedrooms, ARTIQ MD and art consultant Patrick McCrae selected work by ARTIQ artist Claire Brewster. Claire’s delicate, textural work uses vintage maps as the medium and features themes of flight and transition that perfectly compliment the nuances of vintage travel seen throughout the re-design of the hotel.
The Marriott Heathrow Conference, Banquet & Event Spaces at London Heathrow Marriott Hotel designed by EPR Architects has won the Event Spaces category at the European Hotel Design Awards.
Of the design and award, Sasha Stupar at EPR Architects said: “The subtle Interior design theme is inspired by the project’s location. Influences of Heathrow and the close associations of travel are incorporated into the design without being overt; such as the layered design on the carpet which use the shapes formed by the airport runway as inspiration for the pattern. Feature materials and accessories that link back to the ‘vintage’ age of travel are showcased in all spaces and have been introduced into signage, furniture, accessories, etc.
A colour scheme of rich browns, steel blues, and polished copper cultivates a welcoming atmosphere which is also enhanced by the carefully selected artwork. We have worked closely with the Client and ARTIQ, the artwork consultants to select the most appropriate pieces that reflect our vision for intelligent and meaningful art.”
