Call for artists! homopromo is back!
ARTIQ & Homopromo founder James Kemp announce the second edition of its exhibition and charity auction. An open call for artists to create glorious gay art in response to LGBTQ+ issues around the world.
LGBTQ people are still being silenced the world over:
In 74 countries it’s illegal to be gay.
In 13 countries homosexuality is punishable by death.
Over 100 men suspected of being gay have recently disappeared in Chechnya.
President Ramzan Kadyrov denies this on the basis there are ‘no gay men in Chechnya’.
Set up in 2014 Homopromo was a response to Russian anti-gay laws prohibiting ‘homosexual propaganda’. We thought if they won’t promote homosexuality then we will – Homopromo invited all artists to submit their own piece of positive propaganda. It was a tremendous success with entries from all over the world, we were even featured on BuzzFeed. A selection of prints were exhibited and auctioned at a pop-up event in central London, with proceeds going to Stonewall and their efforts in Russia.
We’re back and gayer than ever. It’s time to create more glorious gay art for all the world to see. This year, we look through a global lens at LGBTQ issues across the world. From graphics to illustration, sculpture to photography we invite responses from all artists across the globe.
Entries will feature on the official homopromo website. A selection will be printed for an exhibition and charity auction at a special event on Tuesday 5th December at Herman Miller’s central London offices. Proceeds from the event will go to an LGBT charity.
