ARTIQ unveil ‘Launch’ by Rebecca Newnham at Regent’s Place
Regent’s Place is a 13 acre, fully managed mixed use campus in London’s West End that is currently occupied by nearly 20,000 workers and residents.
On Monday 16th July, ARTIQ and Regent’s Place held an official unveiling of ‘Launch’ a brand new sculpture in residence made by sculptor and designer Rebecca Newnham.
ARTIQ Art Consultant, Frankie Burgess worked closely with the team at Regent’s Place to develop a work of public art that would reflect the creativity, innovation and energy of a mixed use development and to provide a stimulus to support Regent’s Place with their educational outreach activities for local schoolchildren and residents.
‘Launch’ represents the energy required to elevate a swan from a static position into the air. Featuring a steel skeleton, silver mirror and recycled glass, the work bristles with energy, movement and light, providing a unique focal point of engagement and reflection for the community of Regent’s Place.
ARTIQ worked with Regent’s Place to develop two exclusive events to mark the unveiling of the sculpture including a press night and community art workshop. The workshop saw ARTIQ and Rebecca host a group of ten children from the local community group West Euston Time Bank. The group received a special tour of the sculpture from Rebecca and ARTIQ before taking part in an interactive art workshop where they created a giant collage version of Rebecca’s work.
