Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Patricia Volk has been making and exhibiting her unique sculpture since 1990. Working with clay as her primary material, she aims to find simple, pleasant, and dynamic forms, which she then fires in a kiln and assembles on a structure.
Patricia is fascinated with enhancing and accentuating these abstract shapes and lines with a vibrant colour palette. She finds the process of constructing the piece very fascinating. Her father was a builder, which is probably one of the reasons why clay is her preferred material.

Within her artworks, she expresses juxtapositions and hopes to suggest contradictions of strength and fragility, stability and precariousness, rest and activity – much like the relationships between human beings.
Patricia is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors and an RWA academician, confirming her position as an important artist working in painted fired clay.
