ARTIQ announce latest Higher Education project: Carlos Peñalver x LSE

LSE’s newly opened Centre Building was first surveyed in hard hats and steel-toe capped boots by the ARTIQ team who looked to visualise art for a space soon to be bursting with the energy of knowledge, thought and community. Now, as students head to the building for the start of the academic term, they will be welcomed by the work of Spanish-born, Hackney-based artist, Carlos Peñalver as he sets up camp for a fifteen day artwork installation across the building.

With a background in architecture, Carlos Peñalver’s work is inspired by travel, people and drawing. Carlos creates both large scale paintings and murals in his beautifully dynamic line-drawing style and sophisticated monochromatic palette. Carlos will be creating a mural across the Ground Level and Basement Level of the LSE Centre Building.

Carlos’ large-scale mural will reflect upon contemporary global and political themes, touching upon concerns such as deforestation, species extinction and the climate. The mural will also depict an inspiring scene of the coming together of political leaders from across a variety of communities and cultures, reflecting the growing call to global environmental action.

Carlos will be working live on site throughout October, offering students the chance to engage directly with the artist and the artwork. Please see below for when you can see Carlos in action.
