At 1,865 metres above sea level, the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz is one of Switzerland’s most iconic destinations, welcoming guests to the lakes and mountain trails of the Engadin region for over 170 years. As part of the Kulm Masterplan renovation, led by Lord Norman Foster and Foster + Partners, Artiq is providing long-term art direction and collection management services to ensure that the hotel’s existing collection is thoughtfully preserved, curated and integrated into its next chapter.
Working closely with the Kulm team, Artiq undertook a comprehensive audit of the collection, photographing, cataloguing and assessing each work to build a detailed understanding of its scope, significance and future potential.
Built over generations, it includes works by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Gary Hume, pioneering video installations, and a remarkable marble sculpture exploring the relationship between skiing, peace and the surrounding alpine landscape. Through this work, Artiq is helping to ensure that the collection remains a meaningful and distinctive part of the Kulm Hotel experience for years to come.
‘As Kulm embarks on a multi-million transformation of the hotel, the role of the art collection becomes increasingly important—not only in understanding and preserving our heritage, but also in helping shape the future guest experience.’
- Yves Dewaegenaere, Group Brand and Commercial Director, Kulm Group St. Moritz
