The Pump House Residency is back for
it's second year to support an emerging artist
with the space and time to create.

We are excited to announce that Valerie Kuzina is the winner of this year's Artiq x The Pump House Residency.
Open exclusively to artists in our network, the residency offers a one-week stay in Misterton at The Pump House Art Studio, a fully equipped art studio complete with a Victorian print press. It is owned and run by Nicholas Pryke and Claire Elliott, who, with backgrounds in the creative industries, are passionate about art and giving back to upcoming artists.
Last year, we launched the inaugural residency, which was awarded to Charlotte Aiken.
Returning this year for a second edition, Valerie secured this year's residency following an open call and a competitive selection process. As an arts educator with a delicate pencil practice, Valerie intends to push her creative boundaries and experiment with new techniques during the residency. We can't wait to see the outcomes of this exploration and look forward to sharing more about Valerie's time in Nottinghamshire.
Valerie says:
"I couldn’t believe how lucky I was when I got the email about winning this year’s Pump House Residency! As an emerging artist, it’s such an important step for my career. I’m really excited to dive into the rural environment and fill my sketchbook with new forms and colours. I hope the residency will be productive and that I’ll come up with fresh ideas for my drawings."
Nic & Claire from The Pump House Art Studio says:
"We are very excited that Valerie Kuzina has been selected for The Pump House Residency this year. We hope she will be inspired by this voluminous building, its light and its natural setting."
Anaïs, Artist & Partnerships Manager at Artiq says:
"We were so impressed by the quality of this year's submissions and how closely they aligned with the residency's vision. Ultimately, we chose to award this opportunity to one of the more emerging artists in our network, supporting those in the very early stages of their creative careers. We are so excited to see what Valerie will create during her residency!"
