Artiq x The Pump House Residency
Artiq is passionate about supporting emerging creatives and understands the need for time and space to develop your practice. That's why we're thrilled to announce our first-ever artist residency in partnership with The Pump House Art Studio!
Artiq x The Pump House Residency is taking place this October in Misterton, rural Nottinghamshire. Aimed at emerging artists - both recent graduates and those with less than five years professional exhibition experience - this week-long residency will offer one artist the space and time to develop new work.
Following an open call and tough competition, artist Charlotte Aiken secured the residency. With a practice that centres on the notion of infinity, as exemplified by her representations of the sky, the composition of her powerfully large-scale paintings is guided by the structure of the cloud formations, later recreated as impressions of the sky rather than an accurate portrayal.
Charlotte's dynamic proposal included ideas of creating natural pigments on-site and use the nearby surroundings and the building as inspiration.

About The Pump House Art Studio
The Pump House Art Studio is a unique, Grade II* listed property built 180 years ago. Formerly a working pump house, it has been transformed into a stunning, contemporary art studio and fully stocked holiday let.
It is owned and run by Nicholas Pryke and Claire Elliott. With background in the creative arts - having studied art and later worked in interior design and furniture design - they are passionate about art and giving back to upcoming artists.
The Art Studio is now let for holidays to artists - anybody else who would like to stay in a quirky, creative environment. When no guests are staying, it is used to make and exhibit art.
Nic and Claire were drawn to the Pump House's wonderful building in a quiet, inspiring countryside surrounded by abundant wildlife and big fenland skies. They moved from pressured jobs and their base in Aldgate, London, to have a complete change of lifestyle.

"Having had careers in the creative industries, we wanted to give something back to an upcoming artist. We asked Artiq to help us make The Pump House Residency a reality because we love the pragmatic way they support artists."

“I look forward to immersing myself in the surrounding countryside, taking inspiration from nature and the beautiful architecture of The Pump House, to create and experiment with new media for my paintings. I want to use the time to focus on my practice without distraction and push myself to take risks within my work, exploring new ideas.”
