We are thrilled to announce that Artiq
is a finalist in not one but TWO categories
in this year's Brit List Awards.
The Brit List Awards is Hotel Designs' nationwide search to find the top designers, architects, hoteliers, and hospitality suppliers operating in Britain. A large proportion of our projects is curation for hospitality spaces, and we're proud that our strides in this sector are recognised.
Best in British Product Design
Together with artist and maker Richard Stone, Artiq is shortlisted in the category of Best in British Product Design. This category celebrates brands that continue to design and/or manufacture in Britain. Forever committed to championing local talent and with a firm belief in the power of art to complement and strengthen interior narratives, we are proud to be included in this category.
This past year, Richard created a series of bespoke sculptures commissioned by Artiq's curatorial team together with The OWO Shareholders and Development Team, now installed at the UK's first Raffles hotel, opening this October at the rebranded Old War Office.
Drawing upon his previous body of work, 'Re-covering objects', this artist commission took into consideration the carefully crafted interior design and curatorial strategies at The OWO, the locale, and the building's rich history, all while staying true to the contemporary Raffles brand.
The Corner Suites' art collection is designed around the concept of and pertaining to the empowerment of female histories throughout wartime practice. Views from the suites are focused upon the iconic Horse Guards Parade.

With this in mind, Artiq commissioned Richard Stone for a bespoke series of works to draw upon the historical placement of public statues across London, particularly the Whitehall area, and evoke the importance of the Royal Cavalry.
Reinventing this heraldic context as an artistic exploration of material and colour, the works explore ideas around patriarchy, matriarchy and hard and soft power.
Through creatively and flexibly responding to creative client briefs, Richard shifted his practice from the realm of fine art into product design. In this instance, the result is equal art object and bespoke interior design; it simultaneously captures the past and present, offering guests a unique perspective on the local history of their stay while getting an insight into the current local artistic community.

Rising Star of the Year
For the Rising Star of the Year category, we're incredibly proud that our Associate Curator, Henry Dowson, is acknowledged for his involvement in developing and curating Artiq's extensive art collection for the same project.
Working within the small but dedicated project team responsible for the historically sound yet contemporary art collection at the rebranded Old War Office; The OWO, Henry showed dedication, skill and creative flair for storytelling, historical and artistic research, and outstanding coordination efforts that maintained relationships for the duration of this project with multiple institutions, artists, and other creative shareholders.
For the guestrooms, Henry oversaw a wonderful collaborative project whereby we commissioned five women artists, all living and working in London at differing stages of their lives and artistic careers. By spotlighting these women, Henry could confidently combine ideas of innovation, industrialisation, craft, the rural landscape, and renewal as themes pulled from wartime Britain, progress of the early 20th Century, our Royal Family and the political past in ways that felt more abstract, creative, and able to evoke a sense of contemplation, tranquillity, and intrigue.

About the project
Built on the historic royal site of Whitehall Palace and witness to world-shaping events of the 20th Century, the first UK home for global luxury hotelier Raffles is opening at the rebranded Old War Office - The OWO..
Over the past four years, the Artiq team has successfully designed, procured, and curated an art collection for the guestrooms, heritage suites, corridors and some notable moments within the public areas, such as the magnificent ballroom and the new culinary destination by renowned chef Mauro Colagreco. These curations all needed to be worthy of the historical heritage and sensitives of such a grand building. Tapping into the local creative community, the collection highlights the best artistic talent living and working in London today.
A collaborative effort with multiple institutions, artists, and other creative shareholders, it's been a privilege for Artiq to be part of the evolution of the Old War Office. Comprising 1200 artworks by over 50 artists, this collection is our most extensive to date, and we're excited for guests to discover the outstanding art and inspiring stories now on display within the building.
