Freya Fang Wang is a Chinese artist living and working in London. Born and raised in Beijing, her work speaks to universal human experiences beyond distinctions of Eastern and Western culture.
This concern is also present in her approach to materiality. Wang’s meticulous technique combines rice paper, acrylic, oil pastel, ink, and glass paper, to create works defined by their uniquely textured surfaces and delicately layered colours.
Her visual language is informed by a meditative painting process that engages both body and consciousness.

Tapping into vibrations of the cosmic energy field in the universe, Wang explores Taoists concept of interconnection and unity. This reflective thinking creates ethereal, web-like compositions that mirror the interconnection between all creatures in the natural world.
Freya’s focus on humanity and the Anthropocene, earth and cosmology, and nature and spirituality often extend her practice to include body art, gestural art and mixed media and texture. These works span time and space, reaching from the ancient to the modern world and combining Eastern and Western approaches to materiality, philosophy, and production.

It could be said that art provides Freya with a way to exist in balance with the universe. A means to bring order to chaos, a power Lao Tzu called the Tao.
