Makiko Harris is a London-based multi-media artist originally from San Francisco who creates mixed-media paintings, sculptures, and installations incorporating light and objects imbued with personal memory.
Using colour that references her own body's pigmentation and media that connect to her personal history, such as hair or artefacts like her grandmother's knitting needles, she explores an abstract concept of the self.

The work is closely tied to her own body through its large-scale and physically demanding process of creation.
The labour of Makiko's practice includes building, stretching, scraping, flooding, staining, smearing, and forging. Drawing on her previous studies in Philosophy and Studio Art with a focus on Aesthetics, Philosophy of Art, and Feminist Philosophy, her work asks:
