Philip Maltman is a Scottish-born, London-based artist exploring abstraction, landscape and language through energetic mark-making and material experimentation. Raised on the Ayrshire coast, his early experience of beaches and farmland continue to shape a practice spanning over 40 years.
Developing works quickly in series, his paintings often balance figurative references with gestural accidents, using layered processes to disrupt classic representation. Influenced by artists such as Robert Motherwell and Cy Twombly, his work frequently incorporates handwritten text and poetic symbols.
