Georgie Mason, a recent graduate from City & Guilds of London Art School, was commissioned by Artiq to develop a large-scale painting for the reception of 31 St James’s Square.
Working from her studio at Stepney City Farm, Georgie’s process began with in-depth research into the rich history of the building, reflections on the new designs of the space, and drawing inspiration from the interior scheme’s use of luxe materials, such as lace and veiling. This led to the creation of a bespoke work that complements 31 St James’s Square’s impressive history and sleek interiors.

Georgie's commission is an abstract landscape that transforms soft, textural aesthetics into a bold statement piece. Gold and Prussian blue colours complement the details in the space and elevate the room in a soft yet lavish manner.
Installed across the double-height space, Circulatio, which measures over 2.5 meters, is the largest canvas Georgie has worked on to date and is infused with opposing elements: dark and light, past and present, traditional, and contemporary.

Indicative of Georgie's practice, which often incorporates found materials into the textural layers of her paintings, a close inspection of Circulatio will reveal materials integrated into the texture of the painting sourced from the site, such as nails and crushed Portland stone.
Georgie’s passion for experimentation and discovering new effects through 'happy accidents' keeps her practice fresh and moves her practice organically in new directions.
