Buckle Street Studios is an aparthotel by the edyn group, opened in January 2022.
The stark, modernist-inspired edifice contains a calm and sophisticated interior, focusing on neutral textures, earthy colours and directional pools of light.
This fascinating new build needed an art collection that could pack a punch and work cohesively alongside the architecture and interior design.

Artiq curated a series of diptychs for the Buckle Street guest suites, playing on the opposing qualities between figurative and abstract, between earthy tones and bold colours.
One of the artists featured in this collection is abstract painter Joanna Gilbert, a long-term collaborator of Artiq. With a background in marketing, Joanna's practice is an exploration of hyper-consumerism, with subtle references to street art and the urban landscape. Her visceral works are expressive and vibrant, celebrating freedom in all forms.

Her work Extraordinary Times features in this collection, alongside the work Kitchen Interiors with a View by Clara Rubin.
Clara is an Italian painter based in Milan. Her compositions feature domestic settings and the intimacy of everyday life and the home, focusing on light, colour and patterns. This diptych serves as a parallel to Buckle Street: a sanctuary in the middle of bustling East London.
