From Lima to Lisbon, Ana Teresa Barboza's commissions for the newest Locke hotel bridges cultures and communities through her exploration of local crafts.
Originally a 17th-century convent, Locke’s latest hotel, Locke de Santa Joana, is located in central Lisbon, Portugal. This new apart-hotel blends the city’s rich history with modern crafts, where classical architecture meets contemporary charm.
The interiors of the serviced apartments were designed by the American studio Post Company and feature a series of prints by Peruvian artist Ana Teresa Barboza, specially commissioned by the Artiq team. Renowned for her intricate mixed-media textile art, Ana explores the origins of natural fibres and pigments, connecting them to the landscapes and communities where they are sourced.

She created two original textile works exclusively for this property, using cotton and sheep’s yarn dyed with both natural and industrial dyes. She captured Lisbon’s colour palette and incorporated fragments of a geological map of Portugal into her compositions.
Originally embroidered, the works were photographed in Peru, then printed and framed locally in Portugal and Spain, and are now on display throughout all 370 guest suites.
