Once a 17th-century convent, Locke's latest hotel - Locke de Santa Joana - is located in central Lisbon, Portugal. The newly opened apart-hotel blends the city's past with modern craft, where classical architecture meets contemporary charm, inspired by rich Portuguese design. The hotel features a curated design throughout its 370 serviced apartments, including a series of prints by Peruvian artist Ana Teresa Barboza, commissioned by the Artiq team.
Ana Teresa Barboza, renowned for her intricate mixed-media textile work, explores the origins of natural fibres and pigments, connecting them to the landscapes and communities in which they are found.

For Lisbon Locke, Ana created two original textile works. Using cotton and sheep's yarn dyed with both natural and industrial dyes, she depicted Lisbon's colour palette. Additionally, she incorporated fragments of a geological map of Portugal into the compositions, adding another layer to this creative interpretation of the city.
Originally embroidered, the works were photographed in Peru, then printed and framed locally in Portugal and Spain. They are now displayed across all 370 guest suites, complementing the interior design scheme.

Artiq and Edyn, the hospitality group that includes Locke, recognise the potential of hotels as creative platforms. By commissioning a Latin American artist, this project creates access for a Latin American artist to exhibit their work and reach new audiences within the European art market.
