The Bindery is a new workspace opened in
2022 by property developer Dorrington, designed by architects Piercy & Company.
Central to the project is sustainability; all new materials are sustainably sourced and selected with a long design life in mind, and almost all construction waste was recycled or reused.
With storytelling and sustainability in mind, we commissioned artist Eddie Roberts to create a sculpture crafted from material salvaged from the building.

A large steel beam that had once been part of the top floor ceiling was transported to his workshop in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
The beam stands in contrast to the curvature of the external shapes and serves as a rigid structure through the core of the sculpture itself.
A subtle nod to the history of the space it occupies, 'Time II' weaves together the past with the present.

In contrast, mural artist Carlos Peñalver tells
the story of the future. Running along the staircase from the 7th floor to the rooftop, Carlos has created a world filled with optimism and creativity, a utopic view of what a sustainable future could look like.
Inspired by cutting-edge green technology, science fiction and The Bindery's dedication to wellbeing and sustainability, Carlos depicts cyclists, hybrid creatures simultaneously looking like plants and machines, and swallows whose migration routes take them over London on
their way South.

Despite hints of the imaginary, the installation inspires optimism in absolute reality and it is indeed optimism alongside innovation which are the keys to a sustainable future.
